VCF Legend: Enrique Saura

A veteran of more than 500 games in a Valencia CF shirt, club captain, Spain international and winner of the Copa del Rey, European Cup Winners Cup and European Supercup, Enrique Saura is one of the club's most decorated homegrown players.
The star of the 1970s and early-80s was born in Onda, and joined the first team from CD Castellon in 1975/76. He adapted quickly to the team and spent a decade at Mestalla, something that he acknowledges was a big achievement.
"It wasn't easy to play for a big club for 10 years, and I managed it. It was definitely a source of pride to represent Valencia CF," he tells VCF Media.
"I was 20 years old when I joined Valencia CF. It was through the people who were scouting for the club at that time, and above all through Pepe Claramunt and his brother Enrique. At Castellon I played with Enrique, and it looks like he told his brother "There's a kid here that you should sign." They asked me if I wanted to play for Valencia CF, and that's where everything started."
A storied career followed, including spells under the likes of Alfredo di Stefano as coach. As someone born in the region, having success at his childhood club meant everything to Saura.
"Being captain is something that makes any player proud, but even more so for a Valencian like me. Being able to collect trophies on behalf of the club is the biggest thing a footballer can desire."
